The Edward Henry Weston (1886 – 1958) Photographs

ABSTRACT: Of the nine hundred eleven artworks in the Art Collection, the most valuable body of artworks by a single artist is the Edward Henry Weston photographs consisting of one hundred thirty-eight photographs. Edward Henry Weston (March 24, 1886 – January 1, 1958) is considered “one of the masters of 20th century photography.” Weston used a l0" x 8" inch view camera and most of his prints were contact prints. A list of photographs, according to categories, including VINTAGE PRINTS, PROJECT PRINTS, PORTFOLIO PRINTS and PORTRAIT PRINTS, is presented. A majority of the photographic prints are from the Edward Weston Family and a minority from individual donors. VINTAGE PRINTS, taken and developed by Edward Weston, are generally the most valuable. PROJECT PRINTS, negatives by Edward Weston and developed later by his son Brett Weston, but overseen by Edward Weston, are the next most valuable photographs. PORTFOLIO PRINTS, commemorating Weston’s 50th Anniversary, developed circa 1950-1951, and PORTRAIT PRINTS, are also presented. For comparable value ranges for the prints and comparable images, visit ARTINFO and/or the Weston Gallery.
Research, based on comparative value estimates by professionals, estimate the value of all the Edward Weston photographic prints to be conservatively over $1,000,000. ADDENDUM, BIBLIOGRAPHY and RESOURCES are provided.
